i simply pointed out that there is a correlation, and that is just plain
statistical data.
the beauty of correlation is that it indicates a predictive relationship
that can be exploited in practice, that's all what i am trying to say:
deeply religious population tends to be dumber ... that is what the data
says, :)
same applies to the butter production in Bangladesh vs S&P 500, if proved to
be a reliable correlation, you CAN use one to predict the other, why not?
trying to explain the correlation is the hard part. but if a correlation
exists reliably over a long period of time, chances are it is not random and
there should be some causal relationship, albeit much more convoluted and
complex involving other factors, that relates the two.
again using the butter production vs S&P 500 for example, how do you know it
is not the third common factor that caused both? maybe it is weather, maybe
it is the general well being of the global economy ...
but to say they are completely random and has nothing to do with each other
and they just "happened" to correlate with each other so nicely is by far
more reckless and even border-lining stupid...
