Who are they kidding? Scandals are a resume enhancer with this crew.
Gov. Deval Patrick’s path to any post in President Obama’s White House
will be littered with land mines planted in the ongoing hearings on Capitol
Hill over the nationwide meningitis outbreak linked to a Massachusetts
compounding pharmacy — as well as headlines about the drug lab scandal that
has seen more than 100 drug inmates freed, experts said.
Rampant speculation has Patrick, who was an Obama campaign surrogate and
White House dining partner last Friday, as a potential candidate for a top
administration post. If he is nominated for attorney general, ambassador,
Supreme Court judge or any other top federal position, expect both
Department of Public Health debacles — which blew up on Patrick’s watch —
to be the coals over which he is raked in confirmation hearings.
“Any little cloud, any potential black mark on a nominee’s record or
their career, can be brought up to delay the process or end it,” said
Robert Y. Shapiro, a political science professor at Columbia University. “
It would at least lead to some discussion and debate that could be
consequential.”
How does he explain Susan Rice? Besides, any opposition would obviously be
