The Brian Williams scandal has burst onto the public square through a feat
of Internet accountability.
After NBC Nightly News last week posted to Facebook a clip of the anchor
reminiscing about having embedded with the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003,
some Facebookers took issue with the particulars. Whereas Williams claimed
that he was riding in a helicopter that was forced down after being hit by
an RPG, others had a different recollection. “Sorry dude, I don’t remember
you being on my aircraft. I do remember you walking up about an hour after
we had landed to ask me what had happened,” wrote Lance Reynolds in a
Facebook comment responding to the Williams segment.
In issuing an on-air apology for his “mistake” in misremembering the
circumstances of the March 2003 episode, Williams credited “some brave men
and women in the air crews who were also in that desert” for debunking his
set of facts. “I want to apologize. I said I was traveling in an aircraft
that was hit by RPG fire. I was instead in a following aircraft,” he said
on Wednesday night’s “NBC Nightly News.”
Why did it take pushback from “some brave men and women in the air crews,”
however? Do these folks have to fight our wars and fact-check NBC News? |

Brian Williams said on Saturday that he was stepping aside from the daily
broadcast of NBC’s “Nightly News” for the next several days, after
admitting that he had misled the public about being on a helicopter that was
forced down in Iraq.
In a memo to the NBC News staff, Mr. Williams said that Lester Holt, the
anchor for “Dateline,” would step in as the network dealt with the issue.
“In the midst of a career spent covering and consuming news, it has become
painfully apparent to me that I am presently too much a part of the news,
due to my actions,” Mr. Williams said in the two-paragraph memo.
Mr. Williams is both anchor and managing editor for “NBC Nightly News.”
Mr. Williams did not say exactly when he expected to return to the anchor
chair. “Upon my return, I will continue my career-long effort to be worthy
of the trust of those who place their trust in us,” he said. |

第二段原话说的是我没看到.miss的英文解释是fail to hit, reach, or come into
contact with (something aimed at)。是否说了missed就代表自己一定在那个地方，
而对方没有出现，还是说我坐在电视机前，没看到Moyers在war zone出现。有争议。但
是据说没有记者允许出现在战区。所以任何人都可以说I missed Moyers in the war
zones of [the] Falkland conflict in Argentina。
我的意见是，Bill已经最近回应了自己从没有说过on the Falkland Islands。如果有
找到他直接说了自己在岛上的原话。那么撒谎成立。否则如果仅仅是引申，只能说有争
议，或者擦边球。
另外一个能证明Bill说谎的是他是否在战斗情况下救过人（那个摄影师）。所以我说如
果能找到那个摄影师就能证明他对于战斗中救人是否是真实的。
或者谁能证明Buenos Aires当时没有任何combat situation发生，也能证明Bill说谎。
如果他在的地方有当时war带来的combat situation。那么我觉得广义的说war zone是
可以接受的。

Buenos Aires和 Falkland 就要近得多。据说1000miles。

盛顿公园相比。
最极端的是北极战争说南极也是warzone。同样极端的是在A街上发生战斗，旁边的B街

BO was in Argentina, and that's as close as you could get to that
war as a foreign reporter, and he never claimed he and his cameraman
were caught in the war zone. He made it clear it was during a protest
that turned into riot that he got fired at and gassed by the guards,
and his story was corroborated.
