l****z 发帖数: 29846 | 1 Sharpton Astounded Rand Paul Thinks People Who Work Harder Earn More
By Mark Finkelstein | August 10, 2015 | 7:48 PM EDT
In the liberal universe, there's no correlation between hard work or
ingenuity and financial success. As President Obama recently put it, the
rich are simply "society's lottery winners."
Sounding a similar theme, Al Sharpton today declared it "astounding" that
Rand Paul believes that income inequality is due to "some people working
harder." Astounding, indeed! What's wrong with Rand? How could he
possibly believe that someone someone who works, say, 60 hours per week
might earn more than someone else who works 20?
Note that Sharpton also recycled the canard that Jeb Bush said people needed
to work longer hours whereas the context made clear he was calling for the
availability of more full-time jobs.
AL SHARPTON: It's the new 2016 Republican answer to income inequality
and it's a doozy. Here is GOP senator Rand Paul saying Americans must, they
just need to work harder.
CHRIS WALLACE: Question, doesn't your plan massively increase income
inequality?
RAND PAUL: Well the thing is, income inequality is due to some people
working harder and selling more things. So if voluntarily buy more of your
stuff, you'll have more money.
SHARPTON: He said that, that's right, he's claiming income inequality is
due to some people working harder? Astounding! Implying that the poor just
don't work hard enough. It's also strikingly similar to Jeb Bush last month
when he said Americans need to work longer hours. |

164 | 21 This statement of “People Who Work Harder Earn More”, or 人们更努力就可以
赚更多钱, without any prerequisites or preconditions is farce, to say the
least.
Here is an extreme example. During the slavery period in the US, between
slaves and slave owners, who worked harder and who earned more money?
Even in today’s American society, we Chinese are among the hardest working
people, but do we have more executives and CEO’s (CEO’s earn more money
than employees, right)?
And the examples of people working 20 hours or even less but earning much
more than people working 60 hours or even 70, 80 hours are plenty.
You should know, everything has two (or even more) sides to it, just like a
coin that has two sides, especially in politics. Often, Republican says one
side to something, and Democrat says another side to the same thing, both
are endlessly and fruitlessly arguing their side is right or their side is
the whole thing or their side is the only thing. This does not help in
addressing the underlying issue or solve the real problem, hence does not
benefit the society as a whole. Some even think that is the problem for the
two parties system in American politics.
Ever heard of the saying in American politics that you campaign from the
right or the left, but govern from the middle? None of the extreme right or
the extreme left is the solution for America or American. Only the modest
right and the modest left who are willing to compromise to the middle is the
way to go for the US. Just look at both Reagan and Clinton eras.
But it seems that now it is harder and harder to compromise, and the
political rhetoric is just getting more and more extreme. This is very
unhealthy for American society and American people.
Many Obama’s non-achievements or failures are largely due to no-compromise,
either because of his ability or because of the harder stance from the
Republican controlled Congress.
By the way, if you call someone “左逼”, then someone can call you “右逼”
too, which is no difference or no better, not mention other side effects.

G*********2 发帖数: 164 | 43 Again, one thing I don't understand in all this debate is why people don't
read and don't understand, then just conclude something.
"Obama从来就不妥协" – this is not true. Do you know that, to prove your
statement is true, you need to list everything, every single thing, since
Obama became the POTUS, that Obama has not compromised at all? And anyone
only needs to raise one example that Obama did compromise to prove this
statement of yours is not true.
So, here is one example: Obamacare. Does Obamacare not include some
Republican’s ideas? Do you know that, among people against Obamacare, there
are quite large numbers of Democrats? Why? Because those Democrats think
Obamacare is not left enough, or it moves too much to the middle. So, is
that not 妥协 in your dictionary?
Do you need more examples or do you just choose to close your eyes and not
see the facts and the reality? It’s not even worth my time to argue with
other statements of yours.
"中间派"? Did I even mention it?
Here are two places I mentioned the word “middle” in my post (by the way,
the word “middle” or “the middle” does not necessary mean or equal to 中
间派):
1. “govern from the middle” – First of all, here “the middle” does not
mean 中间派; it is opposed to the other two, the right or the left, and you
need to look both phrases to understand its real meaning. It also does not
necessary mean you have to take the zero (the middle point in the political
spectrum, say) or stand at the zero point every time. It also doesn’t imply
that “the middle” is the exact middle point. It could mean that you may
take a +1 (the right to the zero) this time, but then you may take a -1 (the
left to the zero) next time. And it also doesn’t mean that those have to
be the exact 1’s. Second, this whole saying (both phrases) is not my
invention. It is a common saying in American politics, and it is a learned
lesson from past successful US Presidents, Republican and Democrat.
2. “compromise to the middle” – Again, this “middle” does not mean “中
间派”. “to the middle” means towards the middle.
“你的问题就是以为中立一定是对的” – Um, when I said “中立一定是对的”?
And why is it my problem? Or did you prove or argue 中立 or “towards the
middle” is not right?
And “除非你认为二战中德国的无人性也可以理解”? – Where did this come from?
And what does it even mean here? And what does that have anything to do
with your “中间派” or “中立一定是对的”? We are talking about current
American politics after all. Or do you not even understand this?
Also, “work hard” does not mean or equal to “work more”, and vice versa.
And how do you define “hard” and “more”, qualitatively and
quantitatively? Did anyone not know or forget the gender gap still exists in
the US?
真是吃力. Does anyone really understand American politics or issues here? I
feel like I have to educate or teach kids before I can even talk to them. 再
加上一些低智无能显傻喷屎的, is this the kind of debates among oversea
Chinese educated, with no point or biased or preconceived extreme point, and
no result? Do you all not feel ashamed? I DO! So, I’m sorry I’m not going

Or am I just dealing with a bunch of Chinese trolls? Or is this Mitbbs’
tactic to increase 流量?

Obama did not really compromise on Obamacare. He was forced to accept it
when Scott Brown was elected and DEM lost the super majority in the
Senate. He had no other choice but to settle with the plan passed in
the Senate earlier. Of course what DEM wanted was a single payer plan.
But Obama did not have the intension to compromise in the beginning.
A better example of Obama's compromise may be the income level defining
the highest tax bracket. Obama wanted to keep it at $250K and GOP wanted
it at $1M. They both compromised and achieved an agreement on $450K.

G*********2 发帖数: 164 | 48 In the past industrial / manufacturing economy, simply “working hard” or
“working more” may have been enough to earn more money and a decent living.
But, since the service economy, and now the knowledge / creative economy,
working smart or working creatively or working with knowledge will reap more
rewards, including money, and earn a better living.
What’s the purpose of earning more money? To have a better life and to live
better, right?
So, what if you work hard and more, have earned more money, but that “more
money” still cannot guarantee even a decent life? Just look at Walmart and
McDonald workers, for example.
Also, what about the productivity and efficiency? All those are important
factors in the “earn more money” equation.
So, in this day and age, talking about and emphasizing “working hard earns
more money” is just a political smoke screen and misleading, or at least
long outdated. |
