b**t 发帖数: 52 | 1 Things got awkward on Monday when Donald Trump asked an Asian-American
college student if he was from South Korea.
A 20-year-old Harvard economics major identified by NPR as Joseph Choe had
launched into a query about South Korea during a question-and-answer session
at the No Labels-hosted Problem Solver Convention in New Hampshire.
"I just had a really quick question about something you said earlier this
summer," Choe said in video captured by C-SPAN. "Basically, you said that
South Korea takes advantage of the United States in terms of the defense
spending on the Korean peninsula. You said that they don't have to pay
anything. However, I just want to get the facts straight and say that --"
Trump interrupted to ask, "Are you from South Korea?"
"I'm not. I was born in Texas, raised in Colorado," Choe responded.
The GOP presidential candidate shrugged as awkward laughter from the
audience escalated into full-blown cheering for Choe.
"No matter where I'm from, I like to get my facts straight, and I wanted to
tell you that that's not true. South Korea paid $861 million," Choe said
before Trump cut him off again.
Trump's question represents an all too common experience for Asian-Americans
, who researchers say are stereotyped as the "perpetual foreigners."
"[E]thnic minorities, especially Asian Americans and Latino/as, are often
asked ... questions like, 'No, where are you really from?' or 'I meant,
where are you originally from?'" a San Diego State University study
explained. The implicit message, the study said, is that "they do not share
the American identity or have in-group status."
Or perhaps in this case, the right to question Donald Trump.
Just for the record, Trump is also wrong about South Korea not paying
anything toward the costs of U.S. military support. |

Thank you all for the support guys! Just to make things clear:
I don't know if you can see on the video, but the organizers of the event
took away my microphone as soon as Mr. Trump interrupted me. I couldn't
interject, correct him, or defend myself. He just took my first sentence and
went off on his own rant and there was nothing I could do.
I asked the question simply because I want to get the facts straight. Mr.
Trump specifically said last summer that the South Korean government pays "
nothing," which is not true. South Korea pays 861 million dollars, which is
almost half of the cost. Whether or not it's enough (or peanuts) is another
argument entirely (I happen to think it is enough...one reason: the U.S. has
plenty of geopolitical interests in the East Asian region and having troops
in a stable ally like South Korea is in the U.S.' interests and it is worth
the U.S' money.)
I believe that Mr. Trump has a wonderful spotlight that he can use to
educate people, not mislead his followers and perpetuate ignorance. (which
is something he has been doing a lot recently with regards to Mexicans,
women, etc.) |

have asked the same question.
1. Trump trashes Korea.
2. A Korean-looking guy challenges and say good things about Korea. He
indeed is from Korea, like most of us here from China.
3. Trump asks if he is from Korea.
1. Hillary brags about hunting Chinese.
2. CalCat says Hillary loves Chinese.

Trump多次说过亚洲人smart,all about business,这么明确的话
不看,抓住不明确的一句问话放大了解读,果然NPR就是非移代言人,搞PC最在行。 |
