Rest in pieces Keystone XL. You gave it a good run.
Almost a year ago I wrote a piece about why the Keystone XL was a bad idea
and the reasons it would not be built. Keystone XL, a Politicians 'Wet
Dream' or DOA ? Keystone XL DOA
Today, just moments ago, TransCanada announced that they would be pulling
out of the Keystone XL project and suspending all operations.
"The announcement marks a turning point for the company's effort to get the
pipeline approved. Its executives have repeatedly said over the years they
wouldn't back down from seeking a permit in the face of political or
economic uncertainty. Low oil prices have called into question to what
extent oil companies would need the pipeline and President Barack Obama has
repeatedly said he doubted the pipeline would benefit the U.S." according
to the WSJ
To all those folks that were involved in the 'spirited' discussion that
followed Thanks for those that supported my point of view and facts. For
the others that engaged in disjointed off the cuff "facts" kinda sorta ,
regarding jobs and how the BIG Corporation will get its way and the Indians
were little more than a distraction. I suppose you may have just learned a
lesson as to what happens when the little people stand up in a United way,
against the Corporations.
Now before you go saying "that had little to do with the final decision," I
will concede that Economics were certainly a large player in the decision.
That Politics, with the new President of Canada, as well as the
impression that even the Canadians, don't see a GOP President in the US,
the next time around, were a big driver. HOWEVER, the lawsuit in Nebraska
over the water Rights, Aquafer Rights and Rights of those on the
Reservation, who's land would have to be used to build the Pipeline, all
added to the cost, the time and the delay enough that the Keystone XL has
nor become more costly to build than could be recouped by transporting Oil
in it.
Ding , Dong, the Pipelines dead ! Long live the Pipeline! Good riddance. |
