He will start by spelling out how he has differed, somewhat, with Trump in a
number of areas. And how his supporters have the same differences, of
course. But he will praise Trump for having won fair and square. And he
will point out that in the words of the late, great Bill Buckley, what
Conservatives must do is vote in the general election for the most
conservative candidate with a chance of winning. And that is Donald Trump.
Then he will spell out the many areas where he and principled conservatives
agree with Trump. And he will wholeheartedly endorse the Trump-Pence ticket.
And then he will tell Conservatives, in effect, to "grow up" as it were,
fight for the party, fight to convince Trump of the rightness and importance
of their views, and live on to fight another day.
Cruz' speech will be exactly like Barry Goldwater's address to the 1960
Republican Convention that nominated Nixon. Even Goldwater's admonition to
"Grow up, Conservatives" and "take back the party." And the media tonight
will figure it out and comment on it. But you heard it from me first. |
