Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort this
weekend, a senior administration official said.
The trip will take place after Abe and Trump hold meetings at the White
House on Friday.
“The president is personally paying for the Mar-a-Lago portions of the trip
,” a senior administration official told POLITICO.
The trip to the Palm Beach resort will include “a fair bit of golf” and “
relaxing,” a senior administration told reporters earlier Thursday.
Trump’s announced intention to pay for the Mar-a-Lago visit comes after
questions about the ethics of hosting foreign leaders at properties operated
by his companies. In an agreement announced during the transition, Trump
said he would donate money spent by foreign governments at his hotels to the
Treasury during his presidency.
It is unclear what evidence the White House will provide of such payments
actually taking place. |
