President Trump said the Congressional fight to craft and pass meaningful
health care legislation is worth it, in order to get rid of "the dead
carcass of ObamaCare."
Speaking exclusively with "Fox & Friends Weekend," Trump said he hopes both
sides of the aisle can finally come together and pass a bill that "everybody
's happy with."
Pete Hegseth asked Trump about the Democrats' message of "resist," when it
comes to their mission in Congress.
"I saw [Sen. Charles] Schumer (D-N.Y.) criticizing the bill a couple of
weeks ago - and he had no idea what was in the bill... The Republican
senators didn't know because it wasn't released," Trump said.
Hegseth asked about some of the left's rhetoric, like Sen. Elizabeth Warren
(D-Mass.) claiming that people will die because of Trump's ObamaCare repeal
efforts.
Trump said Warren is "highly overrated" as a voice for the liberal "
resistance," and that she loses credibility by consistently displaying "
anger and hostility" in public forums.
"I want to see a bill with heart," Trump said of the ObamaCare replacement
legislation.
Trump said there is only a "narrow path" to a bill that will please all
sides.
Some legislators, like Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.), are concerned with the
bill's lack of attention to Medicaid programs.
Conversely, in the conservative wing of the party, senators like Ted Cruz of
Texas and Rand Paul of Kentucky are concerned the bill does not fully
repeal critical parts of ObamaCare.
"We don't have much of a choice, too. Because, the alternative is the dead
carcass of ObamaCare," he said.
Trump also discussed President Obama's admission regarding Russia, and the
new Veterans' Affairs bill, which Hegseth said the New York Times did not
adequately cover.
