You might be surprised, 22% of the population in LA are in poverty per wiki.
$500 a month is not as easy as you thought.

All those things that can be done.

| F********r 发帖数: 878 | 11 Again, a lot people cannot afford the $500 extra money, and it is not easy
to have the government to give the elderly that much each month. Most
people on this board will not agree with more handouts. Thought 1% chance
might be low, we already have lost 523k American lives to covid so far, and
about 20% of them are 64 or younger.

| r******i 发帖数: 1445 | 12 It is not easy for the government to enforce mask mandate either! In fact,
most states with mask mandate are not really enforcing it, which makes those
mandates a joke.
If the government really want the public to be cooperative, they should
absolutely stop lying! They should NEVER tell the lies that Fauci did.
Instead of mandating mask, PLEA or BEG people to wear masks! This is what
Georgia did, and there is a pretty high compliance of mask wearing in the
place I live.
$500 x 12 months = $6,000.
$6,000 x 350 million = $2.1 trillion
This is just the size of the first relief package! It would be completely
doable if the US congress didn't play their politics, but focused on the
well-being of American people.
500k people dead of course is a big number. But how much of it is
preventable by "mask mandate" and lockdowns? I believe it's very few!

| F********r 发帖数: 878 | 13 Money is not the only issue. You still need to have people out there doing
the work.
Masks definitely reduce the spread of covid. I agree that mask mandates are
mostly jokes, but still it is better than no mandate. Do you think after
the mandate is dropped on 3/10 in TX, more people will wear masks? If there
are better ways to have more people to wear masks, there is really no need
for mandate. Mandate is only an approach, it is not the goal. With so many
people still not believing the usefulness of mask in reducing spread of
covid, a mandate seems to me to be necessary. If they brought in the health
insurers, it could have helped. For example, if people are not wearing
masks, their premiums will increase, just like your auto insurance will be
up if you are not wearing seat belts. But with Trump's big flu rhetoric
last year, there was not much they could do even if they wanted to do.

Similarly, there should never be a lockdown.
Just tell people masks can somewhat protect yourself, and covid is out there
, the risk is out there. When the supply of masks is low, beg people to stay
at home instead of coming out and using masks.
Now everything is already messed up, the death of many people is already
inevitable.
After 3/10, probably some people will no longer wear masks. But I think this
number is very limited. People with empathy of others will continue to wear
masks. People who defies government order never wear masks anyways. Only a
small portion of people who was in fear of governmental enforcement will
stop to wear masks. Given my understand of Texan, I think this is a
negligible amount of people.
