F********r 发帖数: 878 | 1 FL's new way of reporting? Yesterday there were a total of 43,640 covid
deaths, and there are 43,979 today, 339 more than yesterday. Yet, today's
reported daily deaths is 11, looking so good and making CrushingEggs so
proud of FL and TX.
But don't be so proud. Taiwan, not you trumpers, invented it. | r******i 发帖数: 1445 | 2 No at all. I think covid cases and deaths should not be reported at all. | F********r 发帖数: 878 | 3 That's what Americans first accused China of doing. They did not see it on
Fox or ABC and automatically believed China kept it secret. We MITBBSers
here knew of it since December 2019.

with "not collecting data".
Personally, I don't think China (central government) have hidden what they
know of covid to the world. The recent US intelligent report seems to
corroborate this.
Have you seen flu cases being reported daily or weekly? At this point, covid
should be treated exactly the same as flu.

| F********r 发帖数: 878 | 5 I don't agree. Common flu killed only about 400k Americans lives the last
ten years, and covid did that in just one year, with all these lockdowns,
social distancing, and school closures. Without those, the number might be
easily several times. It's too early to live, in peace, with covid.
That was my impression when reading comments on ABCNews last spring. 99%,
ok maybe a little over exaggerated, of them believed so.

| F********r 发帖数: 878 | 7 We will see. Who knows what the fatality rate will be in a year. At the
end of last spring, it was about 7-8%, now it is much better. If it can be
further reduced by a factor of, say, five, we probably can swallow it.

| r******i 发帖数: 1445 | 8 You are still using a whatever number for the fatality.
Let me give you a number: covid's fatality is actually about 30% for people
hospitalized. This doesn't change much by time, also regardless of
vaccination status.

| F********r 发帖数: 878 | 9 I simply got my numbers from worldometer. To me, the overall death divided
by the overall case number gives the case fatality rate. Combined with the
total numbers of deaths and infections, it gives me enough info about "how
bad" the virus is.

| F********r 发帖数: 878 | 11 total deaths divided by total cases. I know it's not accurate and it is
actually a underestimate because even the virus disappears all of a sudden,
some of the infected still die and add to the numerator, but when the
numbers are large, it is not too different.
You probably forgot. On 5/31/20, UK, France, Spain and Italy had their case
fatality rates between 11% and 20%.

who knows if it can be further lowered by another order of magnitude in a
year? At that time, I might be able to swallow it. That's also why I don't
want to give up now. Imagine the US gave up last spring when the death

As of now, US's 1.7% is still a little too high for me to "live with it".

But you won't believe me.
Covid's death rate is about 0.5% when infected. ~30% when hospitalized.
Currently only vaccine shows preventive effect and dexamethasone shows
significant reduction of death rate when the patient is intubated.
The reduction of CFR (death/case) is mostly due to the availability of tests
, rather than the advancement of treatments.
