is generated. In unix, type "hostid" command.
NIC #: NIC's uniqe number. Normally called MAC address (physical address
of NIC, etc). The number is allocated for each manufacture of
NIC, so it's guaranteed unique.
fake NIC# or IP: it's spoofing. In unix, use "libnet" you could
easily construct arbitrary packet to forge MAC/IP address.

sun x86's hostid seems is in /kernel/misc/sysinit
