means the entire OS: the kernel with all SUN build-in software.
SunOS 2.5 -> Solaris 5.5
SunOS 2.5.1 -> Solaris 5.5.1
SunOS 2.6 -> Solaris 5.6
SunOS 2.7 -> Solaris 7
SunOS 2.8 -> Solaris 8
