network printer to personal pc, unless sit in front of the lab machine and
login to the server to print.
In order to print in the personal pc, we need to first print to files (ps)
and upload to the server and use "lp" command to print. :(
Anybody knows some tricks/software to crack the printer? Or some scripts
that can automatically do this (print to file, login to server and send the
file to the printer)?? Thanks. | kb

locally?
In the first case, the printer has an IP itself. In this case, you must be
an authorized user to use it. (My case: I must login NT account--at run, type
some server name, then login with my username & password--
to use department printers.)
I've heard that you could use ssh and tunnelling to achieve it, though I
don't
know the detail.
You should be able to use GUI on that machine, as an alternative to p

发帖数: 9 | 3 Yes, the printer is connected to the network, but managed by a server. Do
not know what Admin did with the printer. I know the IP, but can not add as a
network printer (neither can it be found).
Everytime I must login to the domain server to print by lpr command. I heard
a way to add a local printer with port xxxx, and ssh tunnel the port xxxx to
remote server to print. But how to setup the remote server (accept tunnelled
data and send to printer)? Any scripts to do this? Thanks.
