Utah starting quarterback Jordan Wynn, whose career has been plagued by
injuries, is giving up football and will not play again for the Utes, coach
Kyle Whittingham said Monday.
In Friday's loss at Utah State, Wynn left in the first half after injuring
his left non-throwing shoulder. Last season, he suffered a season-ending
injury after four games to the same shoulder.
Also, in 2010 Wynn also suffered thumb and shoulder injuries.
In 2009, Wynn started five games and had the best season in school history
for a freshman quarterback. He threw for 1,329 and eight touchdowns and also
was named most valuable player of the Poinsettia Bowl. He started 21 games
for the Utes.
Salt Lake City's CBS affiliate KUTV first reported Wynn's decision to give
up football.
Utah's weekly news release listed senior Jon Hays and freshman Travis Wilson
as the new co-starters for Saturday's game against No. 25 Brigham Young.
Hays went 6-3 last year after Wynn had surgery in October. Wilson has
completed all three of his passes, including one for a touchdown, and has
rushed for two TDs. | x***k
