Salt Lake County health department closes buffet and 2 taco carts

The Salt Lake County Health Department has closed one restaurant and two
mobile food carts in the past week for creating potential health hazards for
diners, according to notices filed on the agency's website.
On Thursday, Jan. 29, health inspectors found more than 60 health code
violations at King Buffet, 5668 S. Redwood Road, including:
• An unclean meat grinder.
• Employees handling ready-to-eat food with bare hands.
• Raw chicken stored above cooked noodles in the walk-in cooler.
• A can of WD 40 stored in contact with clean utensils.
• Employee personal belongings are being stored inside cooking
equipment.
• Imitation crab held at too high a temperature (60 degrees) on the
counter.
• Clean pans stored on the kitchen floor.
• Person in charge was unable to demonstrate knowledge of foodborne
illness prevention.
Inspectors closed the Taco Fish Mobile at 400 S. 900 West, on Friday, Jan.
30. The establishment was "suspended from conducting food services" because
the owner was not using an approved kitchen or commissary to prepare food,
the notice states.
Inspectors also closed Chili Verde cart at 100 S. West Temple on Monday, Feb
. 2, for creating an "imminent health hazard." Problems include:
• A non-functioning hand sink.
• An employee failed to wash hands between clean and dirty tasks.
• Not all equipment is contained on the mobile unit.
• Person in charge was unable to demonstrate knowledge of foodborne
illness prevention.
The restaurants will be able to reopen once owners correct the problems and
inspectors deem them safe for consumers.
