they will not seek charges against a Subway restaurant employee who had been
accused of putting illegal drugs in an officer’s drink.
According to a news release issued by the police department on Tuesday, the
crime lab notified them that a foreign substance had been found in the drink
several weeks ago, but the result could not be duplicated in further tests.
Ukena was arrested in August after a police sergeant stopped at the
restaurant for lunch and claimed he tasted chemicals in his lemonade. The
officer also said he began feeling strange, that he lost control of his
limbs and had a hard time braking his vehicle.
Police reviewed Subway’s surveillance footage and said they observed Ukena
leaving the drink on a counter, then “returning with something in his hand
and then leaning over the sergeant’s drink for an unusual amount of time.”
In the news release, Layton police noted that the restaurant’s owners and
management were fully cooperative in the investigation, and they thanked
Ukena and his family for their patience in the investigation. |
