Ph.D first year. No OPT.
Just got an offer on a research position from a University.
They required me to start working by the end of May, 2011.
The human resource told me 4-5 months are needed to apply H-1 for me.
Question:
Is there any way I can work as early as possible?

Is it at the same university where you are studying
for you PhD?
How long is the job?
Are you continuing your PhD after the job ends?

This job is a Full-time job offer in my research field.
I think it will be very long time.
The position is from another university.
I may take some distance learning course to finish my PhD several years
later. |

发帖数: 734 | 4 This other university should file the I-129 petition
for your H-1B along with the I-907 Premium Processing
request. It will cost them an extra $1225 (you cannot
pay this, the university has to pay it), but it forces
USCIS to process your H-1B case in 15 days.
If this other university means that it will take them
several months before they can even submit the I-129
for your H-1B, then there is not much you can do except
ask them to do it faster.
I don't know whether you can get precompletion OPT to
cover the summer. If you current school knows that you
are leaving, they will not likely issue you the new
I-20 that you need to get the OPT.
