发帖数: 15689 | 6 It's more like a combination of both. In your first example, F-1 has no job
during OPT (or had a job but quits), F-1 status expires when he left the US,
hence F-2 status expires as well. If F-1 has not graduated, then it is
expected he will be back, so F-2 can stay in the US. However, the stay is
not unlimited: F-1 cannot have a gap longer than 5 months, so the reasonable
speculation is if F-1 does not return to the US within 5 months, F-2 status
will expire.
