The Graduate College has received information from Employee Services
indicating that you are currently working in two Graduate Assistant
positions which total to greater than .50 FTE. According to the report
provided to us by Employee Services, you currently hold the following
assistantships:
Chemical Engineering - .50 FTE
Biological Engineering - .25 FTE
According to federal requirements, students on an international student visa
are not eligible to work over .50 FTE during a Fall or Spring semester.
The following is information from the NAFSA Adviser’s Manual regarding the
regulation limiting international students to a maximum 20 hours per week of
on campus employment.
3.32.2.2 20 hour per week limit while school in session
On-campus work authorized incident to status under 8 CFR 214.2(f)(9)(i) is
limited to no more than 20 total hours per week while school is in session,
inclusive of any work undertaken pursuant to that paragraph (e.g.,
employment under a scholarship, fellowship, or assistantship, employment in
the library, etc.).
8 C.F.R. § 214.2(f)(9)(i)
Practice NoteFor example, a student employed 15 hours per week as a teaching
assistant is eligible to work only 5 more hours per week anywhere else
under the on-campus provision.
· Exception 1: full-time during vacation periods
On-campus employment may be full-time during summer and other vacation
periods for students who are eligible and intend to register for the
subsequent academic term.
Please reply and confirm how you will revise the appointments listed above
to be in compliance with the policies stated above and reduce the student’s
total FTE to at or below .50 FTE.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
Thank You, |
