hard to get, so plan early. You're able to see one earliest available spot
on their website. But once you pay the visa fee, on the scheduling website,
you will be able to see ALL of the available spots.
You will line up on the ground level outside the consulate building. You
will be allowed to check in a cell phone with an ID OTHER THAN YOUR DRIVER'S
LICENSE. I used my old student ID.
You will not be allowed to bring electronics. But a lot of people brought
paperback books to read. Very smart since the wait is long.
In the interview you will be asked to show your LCA and most recent paystubs
, which a lot of people tend to forget. They were adamant. If you forget to
bring them you will be asked to email them. I was also asked to show my US
driver's license.
When you register for the interview, you will need to choose a visa pick up
location. Choose the Richmond location, which is the closest and you can
take Skytrain to the airport and walk over. Now, since the interview is on
Tuesdays, the visa is usually ready on Fridays. But just in case you should
plan to come back Monday evening.
In my case my passport actually arrived at the Richmond courier service
location Friday afternoon but I did not get a confirmation email (which is
sent nightly), which the very "serious" guy at the pickup place required to
see, even though he helped verify that my passport was right there! I had to
pick it up the next Monday instead (pick up place is not open on the
weekend. Mon-Fri it is open 8:30am - 6:30pm). But on Monday I encountered a
different guy who did not even ask about the letter. So I'd recommend going
there Friday, say that you received the email, but did not bring it, and ask
them to look up your passport using your driver's license |
