近来收到了第一张电费账单，40天用了1480kwh （actual reading）, $250. 我们平时
用电节约，正常做饭，不开空调，很少用dryer干衣服，用的最多的就是电脑。
翻看以前的电费账单，同样的情况，每月消耗不到500kwh, 怎么到了这里用电能翻到3
翻？
早上让物业读了我的电表，又吓我一跳，10天用了1200kwh,照这速度，我这个月账单会
超过$500.到冬天开暖气不得1000刀！？ 太离谱了
我给PEPCO打了电话，他们说会派人调查，要4-6周。我担心他们要是查不出什么名堂，
我难道就只能认了吗？

Assume you only heat up your water by 38C, it takes 1.18125 kwh to heat up one gallon. If you use 30 gallons of water everyday for shower, you would have used 35.43 KWH already everyday.

quite a bit.
Mine desktop alone use 1200w, with a few large monitor and printer, scanner.
It uses around 2200w. I left it on 24x7. so my computer alone use 1584 KWH
per month.
But in winter time, computer act as a heater, it is not so bad. In summer
time, it will cost you even more in AC cost to cool the computer heat.
If you want to know for sure how much electricity it is using, buy a meter (

depends on the PSU you have on you desktop. The usage of electricity should
be no more than the power which supply by the PSU. You have a 1200W PSU on
your computer?
My computer is mid tower and has a 500W PSU.
How big is your monitor? Is it LCD? My 40" sony LCD TV is 200W. I bet
your monitor is at most 100W each.

We have a single family house (about 3100 sqft). We don't have gas here, so
we use electricity for everthing( AC/heating, hot water and cooking). We
have 6 people live in the house, and I work from home, means there are
always someone stay in house. I just looked at the bill of the last month ,
the usage for the house is about 1100 kwh. So, for your 2bb apt, 10 days
1200kwh, something must not right. It seems someone is stealing electricity
from you.

250 times is a just a rough estimate.
I know that IBM RoadRunner does 1 petaflop, but that thing cost 120M, way
beyond my price range.

1.18125 kwh 才能热1加仑水到38度，那效率太低了。我们平时用1000w电火锅，20分钟
就能把0.5加仑的水煮开。
shower开10分钟大概是30加仑水，2个人至少用60加仑水/每天，不可能每天用到60度。

也住过都用电的公寓也就500kwh左右
差200kwh左右都可以接受，但番了3倍就离谱了

我们这讨厌的是电表被物业把着，还不能自己去看。供电公司说是去调查我们又不能参
与。
我最担心的是最终查不出原因我们还得照付钱，你不付人家给你断电你也没办法。这每
月几千度的费用不是小数目。
我这只能多收集些资料应付可能的调查结果，想想就烦。

发帖数: 4125 | 18 it is not reach 38C, it is to increase by 38C. So if your cold water temp is
12C, 1.18125KWH will increase 1G of water temp to 50C.
Normal shower head flow is 2.2GPM, 10min shower will use 22G, assume half of
that is hot water, so you only use 11G of hot water. So you only used about
13kwh.
That is ideal situation, assume all your electric energy is turn into heat,
in most situations, there is some loss (all water heater use some energy to
maintain the temp, etc.)

1 KJ = 0.000278 KWH
The equation is E = m*C_p*delta_T, where E=heat energy, m=mass of water in
grams, C_p = 4.1813, and delta_T = change in temp in either K or degC.
To increase 1 gallon of water by 38C (typical hot water setting)
E = 4.1813 kJ/kgC x 1 kg/L x 3.78L/G x 38C x 0.000278 KWH/kJ = 0.167 KWH
I used heat of vaporization of water in my calculation by mistake yesterday.

我有类似的经历.找过公寓管理员,他们推给了电力公司,电力公司说上门查,可一等就几
个月,最后还好,公寓改变了用电的费用计算方式,按照面积摊.这样,电费才降下来.
我也曾叫公寓的管理员过来一起做了个实验,把我家的总闸关掉,可电表仍然跑的飞快.

你们公寓以前公摊电费，你之前就没人抱怨过？高出的电费你们还是照交了？
我今天终于看到了我家的电表，物业的修理工带我看得。是那种指针式的，有个指针在
3-4间，他说离4近就该读4，是读表的人教的。按照他的读法我这10天就是1200多度。
我觉得每个人的读法太主观了。而且按bill上的算法，两次读数相减还得乘以10，这样
不是更放大误差了。PEPCO太黑了，这事不能就这么完了。
