First open all the wood and let them spead inside for a while, reason is for
the wood to get used to your home's temperature and humidity. Wood will
swell or shrink when humidity or temperature change.
Second, if you are not used to the sander, rent a random orbit version
instead of drum sander. Random orbit sander is a lot easier to master than
the drum sander. Practice first with fine sander paper until you get the
hang of the machine.
Wood conditioner is a good alternative to stain, use a lighter color first,
you can always go darker, but it is harder to go lighter. Put on at least 3
thin coats of the polyurethane. (do not put on a thick coat at one time)
Make sure your room is very clean, hair or little bug or dust will stick to
the floor before the coats get dry. (a light sanding can remove some dirt
between each coat, so be careful on the final coat)
Feel free to ask if you have more questions, LD pass your area often, if
necessary, I can have him stop by your place.

before, you can try to refinish it first.
You will not need a sander if you go with pre-finished hardwood floor. I don
't like it myself, because the micro-bevel in between the pieces, plus you
can put in a medallion.
If you want to try refinish first, you can consider renting this one.

You can cut them into 12 inch wide strips and roll it up for disposal.
I would say you will spend 80% of the time getting the floor ready for
hardwood floor. Once you can start nailing, everything goes very quickly. (
should take less than 1 min a piece)

Wider and longer pieces are better for larger rooms.
But if you decide to do parquet (like herringbone pattern), it is better to
go with narrower pieces (unless you have a huge room).
We did ours with 5 inch wide 3/4 inch thick solid wood.
Solid wood is your best choice (unless you want to install in basement
directly over concrete)

Yes.
偶想把门厅那里铺成大理
Yes and no, they are basically the same idea, but there is little differnce.
First what size and pattern do you plan to use?
Light color (especially some translucent) stone should only use white thin
set.
If you are doing a polish medallion (or polished finish for that matter) you
should apply a coat of sealer after install but before grout.
I would not suggest you using rough finish (like split or brushed) for the
entrance area, because they are hard to keep clean.
Honed finish is the best (but not avail on all marble), easy to keep clean
and looks nice for long time.
Polished finish is nice, but can be slipery when wet (especially if you use
large piece) and can get scratched very easily.
If you are new to this, you can get small size marble mosaic, (no need to
cut, although marble is very soft and easy to cut). A very classic and
pretty pattern is called basketweave (if you don't want to get a medallion)

I am redoing my summer villa right now, used 4 kinds of marbles.
Bathroom (kids) , Rosa Aurora with LED back lighting for walls (it is a
translucent stone)
Bathroom (master), crema marfil, subway walls, boliche floors, hex in the
shower floor.
Kitchen, thassos (both counter top and floor)
Entrance, carrara.
There is a madellion in entrance, kitchen and master bath. (kitchen is water
jet cut)
I also used honey onyx for the fireplace (onyx is not marble technically)

rate (if there is a small change in the environment)
If we can do this pattern well, I think we will try to work on a large

We have to push ourselves to be better all the time.

The medallion I got are all less than $1,000 (smallest one is only $300)
I am only saying you will need a medallion if you pick very plain design in
tiles, if you go with some mosaic pattern, you don't need medallion at all.
I just do not suggest you do the whole area with plain 12x12.
I got some design ideas from ann sacks store in georgetown, if you got time
you can take a look.
