One of the reasons why I moved out of California is my worry about the
school system in California. The cut in education funding started in 2008
and became worse and worse every year. At first, your donation to the educational
foundation would be reserved for the school of your children. Then they
changed the rules and the money became DISTRICT properties.
I would rather spend my donation to hire a private tutor than go to a black
hole! Hence, I moved my family to the east coast where no annual donation is
required to run extracurricular activities and where smart kids can go to
Gifted and Talented programs.
As the school funding problem deteriorates, the housing price for the school
district would go south. Then the property tax revenue shrinks and the
school district might become even worse. Hard to break this vicious cycle
until the local economy recovers. And by that time, your kid might be left
far behind compared to kids in other states. |
