According to my LD, it was his great grand father's 60th's birthday gift
from a good dealer friend, back then showing up with $18,000 cash will not
buy you the car, you need to have some connection and be on a approved list
to get the car.
LD's great grandpa is a sports car lover and already own 3 other Ferrari
before this 250GTO (maybe that is the reason why he become a good friend
with the dealer), I am sure this will be pass down to our kids and their
kids, this one car we will never sell, according to LD.

to US when my dad passed away few years back, since it meant a lot to him.
It means a lot to me now, and I will pass it to my son someday. But they are
not into mechanic stuff. Darn it. I probably should find an interesting car
to start something to pass down to my kids.

Ferrari 250 GTO crash: A Ferrari 250 GTO has been involved in a crash being
dubbed 'the world's most expensive auto accident'.
A Ferrari 250 GTO has been involved in a crash that has been described as
the world’s most expensive automobile accident.
U.S. businessman Christopher Cox was driving his Ferrari 250 GTO through
France, en route to Le Mans. He was traveling with a convoy of Ferrari fans,
including Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and JCB boss Sir Anthony Bamford.
The car, pictured above, is was worth an estimated $31 million. But when Cox
collided with another vehicle in front of him, its value plummeted somewhat
; reportedly, the vehicle is a write-off.
Still it’s only money, right? Perhaps of more concern to Cox will be his
wife Ann suffering a broken leg in the colision, while two passengers in the
other car were also taken to hospital. The accident, which occurred near
Blois on Friday, happened in the midst of a 21-car convoy.
Mr Cox’s model was finished in the Ferrari factory in April 1962, meaning
it had just passed its 50th birthday. It was one of only 39 ever built,
meaning its demise is likely to push the value of other existing models
higher. It’s not known precisely how many 250 GTOs still remain, but we do
know another 250 GTO, a green model built for Stirling Moss, sold last month
for $35 million.
When the cars were rolled out of factories in 1962, they were sold for just
shy of $9,000. Mr Cox’s model was originally red, but received a blue
respray with a yellow central stripe in 1963. |

reportedly purchased the GTO 10 years ago for $8.5 million.
The Ferrari GTO has long been considered the most desirable and valuable of
any cars built by the Maranello, Italy, automaker because of its iconic
styling and V12 performance. In 2010, the nearly $18 million sale of a
Ferrari 250 GTO by British TV and radio host Chris Evans made headlines, and
it reportedly has since been resold in the upper $20 millions, Bloomberg
said.
In January, the 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO numbered 5095 was sold by British
businessman Jon Hunt for about $32 million,
The GTO sold recently, chassis number 3505, was painted in the pale-green
color of Stirling Moss’s UDT-Laystall race team. The car was never driven
by Moss, however; he suffered career-ending injuries in an April 23, 1962,
crash at the Goodwood circuit in Sussex just before he was to race the new
Ferrari.
The car was subsequently raced by British driver Innes Ireland at the 1962
24 Hours of Le Mans, although it did not finish. Ireland subsequently ran
the GTO at Goodwood to famously win the 100-lap Tourist Trophy. |
