As a single child (like many of us), I am in the final stages of sponsoring
GCs for my parents. I am wondering if there are others in the same boat on
this board. Maybe we can exchange information or set up a senior club or
something else that might be collectively beneficial.

1. procedure: would you prefer to have your parents travel to Guangzhou
through counsular processing? I heard conflicting stories about consular
processing. I have no clue whether it saves time or merely adding stress to
seniors not in Guangzhou).
2. adjustment: like many others, my parents did not like the living in the
US last time when I was in mid-west. One obvious matter is that they have
no companion in mid-west. I think more seniors around might be helpful (
like in SF or NYC). If there are others here, perhaps we can help each
other out.
3. medicare, insurance, etc.: I heard there are insurance carriers willing
to take seniors in my parents situation. BUt so far, I have not found them.
As a single child, I am now splitting my hair over this issue as my parents
are gettng older. I have seen so many mishaps and I hope many of you could
understand that it is not a mere matter of paying for their green cards.
Most seniors are not used to living in the US for longer terms, but I may
have no other choice.

choice?
2. My parents have never had the desire to move here and may never will,
which saved me a lot of trouble. On the other hand, I know many who got
their GC gave it up later for whatever reason. It's nice to have an extra
card to show other people though. So check with them first and see if they
do want to come.
3. You will need to take care of the health insurance among other things.

人保险可能>$2000，deductible>$10K的心理准备。有的公司提供的benefit中包括父母
的保险，比如Kaiser Group。如果有机会的话通过公司来解决父母的医疗保险。能不能
买Insurance基本上是根据各家自己情况来划分的。
Insurance走不通，考虑medicare，尽量不要到mediaid这一步。地产商提过medicare
plan A和plan B。如果medicare不能cover，可以找当地城市有没有一些减免的program
，麻州和三番有一些特别的program可以减免。MGH和旧金山医院，特别是后者，收病人
基本不看保险。
如果这几个都不太可行。我曾经在飞机上碰到过父母入籍加拿大，子女都在Boston的，
不知道怎么办的。
还有一个办法不知道可不可行，就是父母入籍前设法搞成双重国籍。大陆护照换不成香
港护照试试台湾护照行不行。当然这个是灰色区域风险要自负。按中国国籍法承认港澳
台双重国籍。实在不行最后还是回大陆养老，子女出钱请人在大陆看护。

1. Consular processing. I will invoke consular processing and let you guys
know my milege. Yes, Guangzhou is the only Chinese port for consular
processing (after INS approval).
3. Insurance is a big deal. I guess I need to test waters myself. MD
appears to have slightly better terms (after 5 years or over 70 years old).
Lessons learned: make more babies when you can OR ...
