Dear Mrs. Nacy,
Well, the school year certainly seems to have gone off with a bang! Though
summer had its ups and downs, after a while it simmered off with a whimper.
In comparison, my 7th grade year seems to be a frenzy of colors, nervousness
, and curiosity. It may be true someday I would also grow tired of school
life, but it certainly doesn't seem likely to happen soon. I truly hope that
I will assimilate into this new environment soon, but I’ve never really
been good at changing my colors (nor at opening my poor, cramped locker.)
From what I've seen so far, Fairfax Middle School isn't nearly as bad as I'd
thought. Considering I'm usually very pessimistic, that is probably a
compliment. The school lunch could use some work, but I'm not quite getting
food poisoning yet. At least, I hope not. I'm artistic at heart, and will be
caught doodling on scrap paper every free second I get. Just thought you
ought to know, as that will be one of the things, I (and perhaps you
also) will have to watch out for. I'm also debating how to become partially
vegetarian, because I honestly cannot stomach (no pun intended) the thought
of myself eating something that was alive just that day or that year. Also,
as shown above, I will unintentionally crack puns sometimes. Not the jocular
kind of jokes, however, just very bad ones. I hope nobody notices. I'm a
supreme chocoholic, and because of that will probably go out trick-or-
treating until everyone calls me too old for it. That's the way I'll always
be, I hope, a kid in heart.
Along with a slew of other faults, I'm extremely indecisive. I'd almost call
myself an android, but I'm not nearly smart enough. However, some things I
do place above others in value, and these particular few I would almost call
my top choices, or “faves”, so to speak. For example, reading books is
very enjoyable for me, and I especially adore rereading good novels, as
usually I'll almost always find one or two tidbits that I had missed before.
Also, if I have any leftover time, I try to draw people perspectives and
expressions, though usually they turn out very different from what I expect.
Of course, those previously-stated pastimes always seem brightened when I'm
eating some freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies. They're one of my
favorite foods, and they're just so addicting! I always try to cut down on
them (Think of the calories!) but end up snacking on them anyway.
Here in Virginia, there's quite a bit more precipitation than in San Diego,
where I previously lived. I love walking out into the rain, so that's a plus
-side for me. I don't know why, but the pitter-patter beating of rain always
calms me down, and the way light reflects during a storm is oddly
fascinating for me.
In addition, I will search for odd little songs I'd never heard of before,
some of which stay in my mind for days on end. “Sing Me a Song with Social
Significance”, “Plenty of Paper”, and “Polushko Pole” come to my mind
first, probably because they're some of the most recent. The songs in
general vary greatly: some are comedic, while others are extremely touching,
and still others are just extremely catchy. Music is a heavenly talent to
possess, unless it's absolutely horrible. (However, even then, it only has
just to improve some.)
You probably can tell from my dismal letter format that I need work in this
area. But this year, I plan to be a lot more organized and prompt. I hope I
will be able to come to all classes on time and have all assignments ready
by their deadlines. I'm sure it won't be very easy, but I'll certainly put
up a good fight!
I hope you aren't bored to tears by this, and I believe I'll enjoy this
class taught by you perhaps a bit too much.
Sincerely yours,
James |
