A post on a famous Chinese bbs reported a shocking story happened in China
several years ago. A couple, an American wife and a Canadian husband, lived
with their children in china. The wife was born in China, and the husband
was from Taiwan. One of their daughters, 3 years old, got hand, foot, and
mouse disease (HFMD).After they sent the child to a government hospital, a
nightmare began. As the parents described, they were forced to sign
agreements that allow the hospital to perform unnecessary medical treatments
; they were not allowed to visit their hospitalized child. They were rudely
treated when they ask the doctors about the progress of their daughter. They
suffered all these troubles until they found that the medical record based
on which the child was treated actually belongs to another child. They
discharged their kid out of the hospital and asked for the right medical
record, so they can continue the treatment in USA. They had to push the
hospital with their foreigner status to get the record. However, after they
got it at last, they found that the record was a falsified one. They also
noticed that their 3 year old daughter became mentally unstable at night.
The girl fought like mad at night as if she was trying to get out of someone
or something. The parents contacted other parents with children in the same
hospital for HFMD, and found out that all the hospitalized younger kids
were tied to bed at night, so that the nurse do not have to spend too much
time on them. The kids in that hospital did not have decent meals and had
not had any bath during the whole period in hospital except the day they
were discharged. It was in summer. The parents got so angry that they
contacted usa embassy and claimed that they would dispose the whole story to
usa medium unless the hospital agree to improve the situation. The hospital
caved in and made changes to the situation.
The story is not verified in anyway. Given the fact that shocking news
always catches attention, I did not take this story too seriously at first.
I know this kind of post will cause a big argument in the bbs. However, what
surprised me and shocked me was the responses to this post. The following

The parents are such trouble-makers. So many Chinese kids can live with it.
Why usa citizen have to challenge it.

这一对儿美籍加籍夫妇赶紧带美国孩子回美国吧，中国十几亿人口的负担已经够重了..
Why don't the usa-canada parents go back to usa with their kids, 1 billion
population is already too much in china.

太矫情了，迅速给孩子治上就不错了，搁美国你不自己叫救护车的话去急诊室跟老黑老
墨一起先等个8小时再说吧。
You are such trouble makers. You should be grateful that the kid got
treatment. If it happens in usa, you have to wait in ER for 8 hours with
niggers and Mexicans.
