Ingersoll Rand Recognizes the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender
Community This Month
As part of our efforts to create a more progressive, diverse and inclusive
culture, Ingersoll Rand shares monthly educational information about
national and international Heritage Months, which are designed to recognize
the contributions of different people around the globe.
This month we remember the individuals within the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and
Transgender (LGBT) Community who stood up for their civil rights during the
famous 1969 Stonewall uprising in New York City. That single event is
considered the major tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the
United States. Since then, governments around the world have enacted
legislative changes to recognize the rights of the LGBT community; and
society has begun to adopt new attitudes and advanced treatment toward its
members.
To honor the community and its achievements, the month of June marks a
variety of global events including pride parades, workshops, symposia and
concerts that attract millions of participants around the world. Memorials
are also held during this month for those members of the LGBT community who
have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS.
The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the local, national
and international impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
individuals have had on history, including a number of historical, business
and political leaders, actors and musicians. At Ingersoll Rand we strive to
create a welcoming and respectful environment for our employees and
customers. As part of these efforts we encourage employees to use the
resources below to learn about the LGBT community.
If you or your teams need ideas for how to celebrate and recognize the
contributions of LGBT community, please reach out to the PDI Department:
