Today some posts remind me this real question:
If you are working for an International Car Maker legal dept, and you know
the car maker are hiding lot of accident reports and they do not report to
US government because they want to cover their long lasting reputation of
fake "excelllent quality". You insist to report but the executives don't
allow you to do so. They ask you to resign and offer you $2 million package
if you keep your mouth shut (do not report their stuff to the public/
government/anyone).
You know:
1) You need to resign because executives do not appreciate your honesty
2) You might not get a job from any other big companies IF you report (and
lost the $2 million package), and that will make your income drop
significantly plus you might lose your house after a certain period of time
in unemployment
3) More people will die if the car manufacturer does not change their
current policy and does not recall the cars back
4) The car maufacturer would rather settle the death case than recall the
car back, considering the cost
5) Government might go against you because politicians care more about their
territories' unemployment rate (and the car manufacturer hires huge amount
of labor)
6) With the $2 million dollar and your mouth shut, you could pay off all
your debt, retire early, work for some other companies, or work for non-
profit organizations with benefits, like a typical successful man
