Not necessarily. In fact, I am now using a WinXP Professional as the host
machine and use Win2k in the internal network. It is very similar to Sygate or
sth like that. MS gave the name as ICS (Internet Connection Sharing). I would
say it is the easiest way of two-machine network, one as the host and the
other as the client. As to hardware, you only need one additional network card
and a cross-over cable for the host machine that is very economic.
The setting for my system is as following:
