In another way, subconscious can be trained by consciousness to some extent,
besides one' life experiences. When this conscious effort is built into
subconscious, there's no need to call upon consciousness any more.
One's life values and thought patterns are mostly in the realm of
subconscious. That's why I find The Work very effective. Through conscious
training of checking whether the thought is right or wrong, this habit
gradually becomes native and such inquiry instantly happens whenever a
thought arises.

No, what you said was not right.
There is not right or wrong in training the subconscious, as the subconscious is receiving information every moment, like a yes machine and tape recorder. No matter you want to train it or not, it is receiving the information, through conscious.
Many conflicts in life are due to the discrepancy between the conscious and subconscious, and the subconscious is in charge of our lives more than the conscious, in terms of time and strength.
Given that, if you want the subconscious to agree more with your conscious, you should change its recording and let the conscious to be consistent with what you want from the subconscious, because only the conscious is what you can control directly.

"Can we really control our consciousness?"
Yes. That's what consciousness is defined. That's what our mind is doing.
"Many conflicts in the life are due to the discrepancy between conscious
and subconscious. Why?"
Take addictive behavior for example. One wants to quit but can't fight
against it, as if there are two parts in one person. Why? The conscious mind
wants to quit, but the subconscious wants that craving. One side often wins
out only temporarily, and the person may feel guilty or self-blame
afterwards. Until the subconscious is tuned to accept the positive message
to change, this fighting won't stop nor give the person peace.

Hi, Jean:
All that I said used the colloquial concepts as what we meant in our daily life dialogues.
The consciousness is what enables you to read, think, react and post on this board. What makes all the tasks possible? The mind and the body, and the subconscious that perhaps you don't realize much, but how you feel is greatly determined by your und
ng subconscious and your thought patterns on how to interpret the outside world.
"Why did you think that it is subconscious mind wants to quit? "
Is it a typo there? Do you mean the "conscious" mind that wants to quit?
In the example I gave, I mentioned addictive behavior. Now I can give you more concrete examples, such as nail-biting, smoking, or even those earlier days in romantic relationships that people constantly want to check out how others are doing, etc.
The conscious mind wants to quit nail-biting, smoking, and being less needy, but they may feel like they can't control themselves. This is not uncommon, and perhaps you have experienced something similar before, perhaps at different intensity.
Your life experiences can be the evidences you want to understand the interactions between the conscious and the subconscious.

Hi, Jean:

life dialogues.
-----
Okay, if the definitions of consciousness and subconsciousness are the
colloquial concepts, I can firstly
accept your definitions but only in our conversation. Because in academics,
there are no quite clear and agreed definitions of them, especially
subconsciousness.
The consciousness is what enables you to read, think, react and post on this
board. What makes all the tasks possible? The mind and the body, and the
subconscious that perhaps you don't realize much, but how you feel is
greatly determined by your underlying subconscious and your thought patterns
on how to interpret the outside world.
-----
In the process of my thinking, reaction, and posting on the board, not only
consciousness but also subconsciousness is engaged.
And I think the "subconsciousness" in your explanation is somehow also
consciousness.
At least it is not the typical "subconsciousness" or "unconsciousness" in
Freud's opinion.
"Why did you think that it is subconscious mind wants to quit? "
Is it a typo there? Do you mean the "conscious" mind that wants to quit?
------
Yep, sth was wrong there. What I meant was "why did you think it is
subconscious mind does not want to quit?" :-)
In the example I gave, I mentioned addictive behavior. Now I can give you
more concrete examples, such as nail-biting, smoking, or even those earlier
days in romantic relationships that people constantly want to check out how

-------
Yep, I have a lot experiences quite similar as what you said, but I do not
think it is proper to use consciousness and subconsciousness to explain the
reasons of the discrepancy.
In my own experiences, the conflicts in my life mostly do not come from the
discrepancy between consciousness and subconsciousness. They come from
different consciousnesses, and how to choose between them is the problem, or
how to choose them in a better/right way is the problem.
Your life experiences can be the evidences you want to understand the
interactions between the conscious and the subconscious.

Hi, Jean:
The subconscious I mentioned is the Freudian one, and it's also the
colloquial one. I meant to say there's perhaps no corresponding concept in
Buddhism, and I did not talk within a Buddhsim framework.
In addictions, the conscious decision is to quit, and then what makes one
not to quit? Take smoking for example, people often come up with excuses
such as smoking makes one less stressful, but those excuses are never
original, but what they heard and used as excuses. They started smoking
perhaps when they were young and they wanted to get into some friends'
circle to be cool, and it is their needs of security and approval that drove
them to smoke. Those needs are in their subconscious that they are not
aware of. Unless such fear or lack of security is treated at the
subconscious level, they may quit smoking, but start another addiction.
☆─────────────────────────────────────☆

First, check the thoughts whether they are true, using Byron Katie's The
Work. As those thoughts are generated based on one's background and
experiences, that are stored in subconscious. Thoughts are the exposed part
into conscious.
Second, say affirmations while checking what's holding you back, and choose
your thoughts wisely.
Third, meditation, and even hypnosis.
