and the world I would understand myself and the world better and then
I would be happier. Then I read a lot of book by a lot of philosophers
and scholars and I found that though the knew and think a lot they
were clearly unhappy people so it was silly that I should learn to

Then I studied religions but I just could not have faith no matter
how much of their religious texts the I read. Then I started

He he, you don't have to like this answer, but this is as good as any other...
Anyway, I always wanted to know the meaning of life even as kid. As i came to
US during high school time it was a difficult time but I was influenced by
some of my American friends who want to know things just for the sake of
knowing (growing up in Hong Kong, kids are more practical and materialistic...)
The lerarning environment in this country fostered my asking why habit.
I am not a super intelligent person so no | q*c

In my humble point of view,
according the situation and character of J star,
I have a reason to believe that ,
the reason J star did not care "physical"
mostly comes from the fact that, he DID not lack it, haha.
When he becamse a job loser among the many innocents
in my terrible hometown ( maybe all over china）
he definitely will have a very different idea, hehe.

Or you have nevr experience the eight kinds of sufferings that Buddha
taught about? 1. to be with someone that you hate. 2. to leave someone that
you love, 3. not able to attain what you desire to have, 4. pains caused by
having this body. and of course the other four sufferings birth, aging,
sickness and death. And there are tens of thousands of minor situations,
peopleand things that cuased us to feel unsatisfied.

Sorry for interrupting your discussion. I agree with you that taking away
people's religion forcefully is a cruel thing, but I think the statement
itself 'religion is the opium of the masses' is not far from the truth,
the kind of hard cold truth that is not "pleasurable" and sounds not
"positive" to most people's mind.
What are the similarities between religion and opium?
1) they both give people the feeling of happiness(even ecstasy) and relaxation
2) they both poison people's healthy mind a

religion, and this sounds not like what a wisdom BM would say. But I
say this just as an ID's personal opinion.
When I say I agree with Marxism's statement of "relgion is opium of the
masses",I do not mean I agree with Marxism's practice of changing the
world and people via violence,and their belief of the religions' origin.
Yes, generally speaking, religious people are kind model citizens and

AS sharp as J star, I am surprised that
he will get such a wrong idea from my post.
I did not read GP's post a lot, but my post
is definitely not the way J think...
I never claim that buddism should be practiced when
you are in poor condition...on the contrary,
if one did so, I have a reason to question his
intention. To me, at least it is not the reason.
I just comment on J personally, that HE ( J star)
DID NOT CARE PHYSICAL A LOT comes from good life....

to call religion the pain killer (aspirin, etc) of the masses. It doesn't
stop them from feeling pain in the future since the cause of sufferings
is not understood and got rid of of, but it help themem not felling the
pain right this minute. Life become less unbearable to some as a
person put his/her faith in God or a Kuan Yin Pusa...
