1. h-1 can use resident alien's standard deduction, which is
larger than f-1's non-resident alien's.
2. h-1 can file jointly if he's married. this is the bomb.
3. the 1st year h-1 can save that 5000, too, if he earned at
least 5000 while he's still f-1.
cons for h-1:
1. h-1 needs to pay social security and medicare, which is
big.
so check if you're married; if your OPT is close to expiration;
if you can keep at least 183 days as H01 (in year 2005, maybe). |
