前者可以换个环境，学习一下大公司的运作和管理，也有机会回academic，但未知数多
点；后者就可能一辈子就只能呆在校园了，听说不大好招学生，前几年也是苦啊。。。

发帖数: 836 | 4 这个主要得看个人职业发展兴趣吧，两个是很不一样的道路，而且都挺难回头的。公司
里面是为别人打工头几年压力一般没像学校那么大，同事多数性格比较正常，能说会道
能认同公司运作理念比较重要，做人比做事更重要些，写文章发专利都有一定程序，特
别有想法和个性的人反而比较郁闷，工作相对不稳定，不过职业发展的道路会宽很多。
学校拿到tenure工作稳定,重心在科研上，以后也一直如此，要自己张罗很多事情，钱
啊学生阿课题，发文章的压力大，另外可能学校里面教授都是自己统治自己的实验室，
比较少外在的制约，某些科系性格奇怪的同事多了些，不过也无所谓了。 |

It's always possible to go back from industry to academic later if you've
got your PhD; many professors actually work as consultants for companies too
; but the longer you stay on campus, the harder in the future you'll move to
corporate world

发帖数: 77 | 6 I have the same idea too. It's really boring if you stay in the school for
the whole life. Life is short and we can try more possibility. But in order
to avoid midlife crisis, is there any one going back to academic from
research center? What't the position? AP or associate prof. if there are
enough good papers ?
In fact, getting a position in R&D seems more competitive than getting that
AP position, at least in the course of on-site. So harder to get, harder to
give up.

bottomline is: don't choose academia for so called "job security".
AP at 100+ school is not competitive to get funding and good students.
Unless it is a teaching school, these will harm your tenure process. And don
't be misled by "tenure" title, it doesn't secure your income & job---
without grant, you will earn as little as a postdoc and the school will
eventually kick you away. |
