1) HR hasn't notified accounting/payroll yet about your departure, and it's
a mistake as in my case. i called them to fix it and return the $. they'll
find it sonner or later. you don't want them to direct withdrawal from your
checking account anyway;
2) or you may have some unused PTOs left which should have been paid to you
on your last paycheck, but again, mistake happens;
3) they love you too much.

contact HR. After a few weeks, I received a letter from HR demanding pay
back. I mailed them a check for about $8500. They never thanked me.
This was JPMorgan, by the way.
