FAQ
Q: Can I use this as a WiFi-only device (without activating on a cell phone
carrier)?
A: Yes, you can bypass carrier activation. copy/paste link: bit.ly/ct3rJo or
developer.palm.com/index.php?option=com _content&view=articl e&id=2051
Q: What carriers will activate this phone?
A: If it's the Verizon Pixi Plus that has been featured in tons of deals,
you have two choices: Verizon Wireless or PagePlus Cellular.
Q: Can I use this without a data plan?
A: If you activate your Pixi Plus, Verizon will require a data plan.
Verizon currently requires a $30/mo. unlimited data plan, although existing
customers may still be able to get a $15/mo. 150MB plan
(note that these are in addition to your phone/text plan).
Alternatively, PagePlus does NOT Require a data plan,
but has a $30/mo. prepaid 1200 minute/2000 text/100 MB data plan
(i.e., 100 MB data included at no additional charge).
If you use a limited plan, you should disable data when you're not using it,
because the phone will use data in the background to sync contacts, check e
-mail, etc. If you don't want to activate the Pixi as a cell phone, you can
use it as a WiFi-only device/MP3/video player by bypassing carrier
activation.
Q: Can I tether for free?
A: Yes, but.... If you activate with Verizon Wireless, you can use the
included Mobile Hotspot app (5 GB/mo limit). PagePlus does not work with the
Mobile Hotspot. Alternatively, you can use a third-party tethering app such
as FreeTether (currently beta) or MyTether (unmaintained, but some people
still report success) for unlimited tethering. I would assume these third-
party tethering apps work just as well on PP as they do on VZW, but if you'
re on a limited data plan like the PP 100 MB or VZW 150 MB plans, you won't
want to do tethering anyway except for emergency use.
Q: Can I hack/jailbreak/root this phone?
A: In a word: yes. More specifically, all you need to do is put the phone in
developer mode. On the home screen, just type the Konomi Code "
upupdowndownleftrig htleftrightbastart" or use the alternative "
webos20090606". As soon as you type the last letter "t" or "6", an icon for
"Developer Mode Enabler" will appear. Tap that icon, then switch Developer
Mode to On. Once you have a webOS phone in developer mode, you can do things
that would require jailbreaking/rooting on other phones.
