is cheap like I am. Have been a long term T-Mobile prepay customer, and
have been stuck for a while in a more or less reasonable Even More Plus
contract with an AAA discount. Monthly bills were $120 for 750 minutes
shared between four lines, unlimited text messaging, free wifi calling, and
one stupidly expensive $30.00/month unlimited data plan. Have been wanting
to get data plans for all 4 lines, and been eyeballing the Value plans (the
bring your own phone plans). To that end, I have been collecting cheap
Android phones for those of us without data, and so picked up a couple of
Samsung Darts and an LG Optimus T for $100/each. So we all have smart
phones, I have just been waiting for the transition fee to disappear, which
happens 18 months into existing 2 year contracts.
Lo and behold, my transition fee finally disappeared and I went on a chat
with a T-Mobile rep to see about switching to a Value plan for the 4 of us
with a shared 1000 minutes, unlimited texting, free wifi calling, and
unlimited data, first 2GB high speed, throttled after that. I was quoted
109 for that bundle, plus tax. So, not much different than my current plan
but we all get data, seemed ok. I asked the rep if she could sweeten the pot
and she suggested I call Customer Loyalty. So I did.
Remember, I am not out of contract, just 18 months in, so there is no
transition fee but I still have another 6 months before I can tell T-Mobile
to jump in a lake. However the Customer Loyalty department didn't seem to
care. They offered to forgive my current month's bill (which was actually
140 not 120 as we had to return a phone). They made sure my 14% AAA
discount was kept in place. And they gave me a $10.00 per month credit for
the full 24 months of my contract.
So, net net bottom line, I had one smart phone bought subsidized already. I
bought 3 more for $100 from the prepay sales posted here. And my new
monthly bill is going to be $84.00 plus tax. That's for 4 lines sharing
1000 minutes, unlimited texting, free wifi calling, and 2GB high speed per
line, unlimited but throttled once the limit is reached. Plus they actually
forgave my current $140.00 bill, except for the tax (so this month's bill
is less than $10.00) I am thinking that's worth signing on for another 2
years, and I decided to post it in case anybody else is in the same
situation I was in and was thinking of renewing without a quick call to the
Customer Loyalty department first!
