instead of regular AA batteries) and simply placing the controllers on the
docking unit. No more removing the stupid rubber skins to replace AA
batteries! Saw this elsewhere for $25-50.

Really helpful review pasted from Amazon.com:
The following review was edited from the original review for the 2
controller charger, but it is really the same for the 4, only bigger.
First, a bit of description. The package includes a leaflet with
instructions, a power wire attachment, the charging cradle, and 4 battery
packs. Everything's in white. The power wire attachment taps power from the
Wii adapter, you cannot plug it directly to the mains (more on that later).
It is the induction type charger, which means its wireless, you just need to
pop the controller onto the cradle to charge. No need to worry about any
metal contact points being in contact, or inserting something into the hole,
or insert a USB port into wherever, you get the idea.
To assemble, attach the cradle to the Wii power adapter with the attachment,
and replace your AA batteries in the Wii controllers with the provided
battery packs. That's it.
There is a switch at the back where you flip to turn it on. It will glow
blue. Place an uncharged controller on it. It will then glow red on the area
of the uncharged controller. Nice. It then turns blue again when it is
fully charged.
As you well know, the Wii's controllers have so many possible configurations
now... Wiimote, Wiimote Plus, Wiimote with additional motion add on, with
silicon skin, with nunchuks plugged in, etc.
I had these problems to solve:
1. I am sick of changing the AA batteries. You need to peel out the silicon
skin.
2. I hate rechargeable AA batteries because that means I have to keep
removing the batteries (see problem 1).
3. I am sick of unplugging all the parts (Motion plus, silicon skin, nunchuk
....) every time I want to charge the remote so that it fits in the charger.
4. I need a charger that doesn't take up much space, as I have so many
chargers... PS3, PS3 Move, DSi XL, handphone, PSP, other controllers etc.
On a whim, I bought this product.
How did it solve my problems?
1. and 2. It provides a pair of battery packs which you never have to remove
. You can cover your controller with the silicon skin and never have to peel
it off to change batteries.
3. This charges by induction/contactless. You just place the controller on
the cradle, without the need to remove any parts of the Wiimote. Yes, it
doesn't matter if you have the silicon skin, or whatever fancy straps,
nunchuks, or add-ons you have. Well of course, you gotta take it out of the
Zapper or light sabre or cookie cutter.
4. This thing is flat and small. Looks great on my entertainment setup.
Now for the bad points.
You NEED TO PLUG IT TO THE BACK OF THE WII. How it gets its power is that it
taps onto power from the Wii adapter before it reaches the console (plug it
in between the power adapter and the console, they provide a little
attachment for you to do that.) Hence it is powered by 12V DC. This is also
written at the back of the cradle (12V 1 Amp).
Well, that means it could only function when the Wii is turned on. What if
you want to charge the controllers when you are not playing/Wii turned off?
(obviously!)
I tried to forgo the attachment thingy and connected the charger to a 12V DC
adapter directly. Tried it for 2 days, the lights do glow, but the
controllers did not charge, and thereafter there was a smell of burning
electronics in the room. Yes, I fried my charger in 2 days. I DON'T KNOW WHY
!
I took it apart (it's easy, just remove 5 screws) and I smell fried
electronics. A couple of solenoids and a couple of ICs inside. Can't fix it,
so I tossed it, but kept the battery packs.
So I bought a new one cos this thing is so convenient and pleasurable to use
. Now I have 4 battery packs (I bought the 2 controller version twice, so I
have 4 battery packs now), which is great as I have 4 controllers anyway. I
tried it with a different 12V DC adapter, and it started flashing like a
madman, so I turned it off immediately. Seems like it works ONLY with the
Wii power adapter and nothing else. I tried connecting the charger to the
Wii adapter, with the Wii console totally disconnected, and it continues to
charge. Bingo! So if you want to charge the controllers with the Wii off,
you can do so with the Wii unplugged. But this is annoying, having to plug
and unplug the power cord every time, so I decided to buy another Wii power
adapter, so one power adapter powers the Wii, the other powers the charger.
Problem solved.
Thus this is the only complaint I have for this charger. Although I
understand they are trying to minimise the number of wires coming out of
your setup, I still hope they provide an option to charge from the mains
directly in a future version maybe.
I know this also comes in a 2 controller version right here at Amazon as
well.
It is quite a luxury item, being more costly than many other chargers in the
market, but in the long run, it's really amazing.
