" and the device
I see a lot of "Class XX" bashing on these forums when deals are posted for
microSD cards. Class ratings only state a MINIMUM sequential read speed and
nothing else (which may be fine for cameras, but it isn't for phones).
Routinely a lot of class 2s and class 4s will benchmark at class 10 speed or
higher.
A lot of the users over at the XDA Devs forums (especially the nook color
selection, due to the significant number of users running a full android rom
off their microSD cards) have witnessed extremely poor real-life
performance with class 10 cards, and brand selection seems to be the key.
Further more, after collecting a bunch of benchmarking information, there
seems to be a correlation with good benchmarking scores in the "Random Write
, 4kb blocks" test and actual real world performance. MOST cards will
benchmark in at 0.020 MB/sec while the fastest cards benchmark in at speeds
>1MB/sec (>50X faster).
Sandisk seems to be the clear winner across the board (with class 2 and
class 4 cards benchmarking), although it still varies from card to card.
I summarized up 31 pages of test results in a google docs spreadsheet:
