Last night my 2nd grader was moaning about the writing homework and said he
didn't know how to write at all. After some coaching, I felt it hard to
control my temper. In the end, I managed to tell him that if I found he
still hadn't started a sentence after I bathed his brother, he'd be in
trouble.
Then while I was still bathing the little one, the homework hater came into
the bathroom and showed me what he's finished. Here it goes (The
requirement is to write a paragragh about colors, and the first sentence has
to express the main idea.):
'Fruits and vegetables have different colors. Granny Smith apples are green
. Blueberries are blue. Bananas are yellow. Oranges are, well, orange.
Some peppers are red. For colors of fruits and vegetables, pink, purple,
grey and black are less common. It is healthy to eat foods of many colors'.
And he's pretty happy that he could do it!

My kid is also working on a poem. He chose the topic 'pollen' just because
he's sufferring from seasonal allergy. The teacher said she never read one
on that before, and he thought that means he's got a good one. This reminds
me that I should check on him whether he made any progress, otherwise have
to pursuade him to change a topic!
