Google just announced that it will now allow users to download over 1
million public domain books in the EPUB format. Google had already made this
archive available to some of its partners, including Sony and Barnes and
Noble, but until today users weren't able to download these free EPUB texts
from Google directly. Google will continue to make PDF versions of these
books available for download as well, but users with eReader's will find the
new EPUB files far more useful. | N**********d

Google challenges Amazon and Apple, launches eBook store

The eBook store is compatible with any webkit browser and it works on
Android phones, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, web browsers and many supported
eReaders. Since the Google eBooks are stored in the cloud, reading doesn't
need any downloading because one can read ebooks directly within the browser
or application. Google eBook app allows books to be synchronized across a
variety of devices.
Google offers some ebooks with flowing text or original scanned pages, or
both. Google purchases will be stored on Google's servers where they are
then always accessible to purchasers. Google eBooks uses an Adobe ebook
platform.
The eBook market which is largely dominated by Amazon, has many other strong
players such as Barnes and Noble, Sony e-reader and earlier this year,
Apple also had entered into the market.
