Twice in the last month there have been threads on HyperScale’s Discussion
Group talking about Flankers fighting Eagles in Summer 1992 and having their
lunch.
I was surprised, first of all, that I had never heard about this before. I
flew Eagles in the 94FS at Langley, which was the squadron that went to Russia
then hosted them when they visited the U.S. With my usual impeccable sense of

Interesting to know the "true" story. Almost ten years ago I first read this
Su-27 beat F-15 article in one Chinese pro magazine. And then it repeated many
times in the various magazines.

still probably mean nothing despite the outcome. These dog-fight combat
maneuvers and WVR capabilities are next to pointless in a real head-on.
Modern USAF and Navy pilots fighting doctrine put emphasis on BVR (fire and
forget) with the help of their AWACS, WVR is literally the last resort and
nobody is a winner when both a flanker and an eagle gets a lock on each
other.
