Economics, earnings reports, and market events for the week ahead.
This next week will be extremely pivotal for the market. If Draghi can
follow up with his statements from Thursday and Friday, it is likely that
the market will continue its run higher. Draghi said on Friday that the ECB
was looking to start a new bond-buying program, cut rates, conduct another
special LTRO and give the ESM a banking license in the long term. Not only
is there the ECB meeting on Thursday, but the Fed will release its rate
decision on Wednesday. It is unlikely that the Fed will begin any new
stimulative measures after it extended Operation Twist last month, but the
market is expecting something from Bernanke.
Friday is jobs day in the US. Recently, economic data has begun to turn the
corner after the data was highly deflationary during the months of April and
May, and into June. A "beat" on the nonfarm payrolls release would help
keep the market from sinking lower. Auto sales on Wednesday will also
provide another boost for the market.
Key earnings reports include LinkedIn (LNKD), Mastercard (MA), US Steel (X),
MetLife (MET), and Procter & Gamble (PG).
