don't blame it all to luck neither.
I had a 20 buy-in downswing and a 12 buy-in downswing recently. I certainly
ran pretty bad, but I also played bad. If i could avoid some obvious mistake
, it wouldn't be that bad.
As long as you can put in enough hands, the luck factor can cancel out
pretty easily, at least for online players since we generally play much more
hands per hour. If your true win rate is high enough, it won't take too
many hands to get out of the bad run.
For online players I highl

yeah, i agree, but for myself, i take the same thing the other way.
for me, i need to take a break after recent frequent plays and analyze my
problems. luck might actually have helped me for a while to cover some long
due issues. i was in big swings (for the stake i played) a few months ago,
and each time, i came back big too. it may actually spoil me and give me
unreal confidence.
my rate was better before when i played weak/tight as a novice, hehe. but
after a while and a few books, it's actua

i always took a break when i ran really bad.
downswing is kind of good for our game because it makes us inspect our game
play more carefully. Lots of times when we don't have this luck problem we
tend to ignore our mistakes, or at least don't pay enough attention to them.
Then when we start to run bad, we realize that if we can put those mistakes
in control, it can make the downswing so much easier to overcome.

generally for cash games without a very deep stack, less than 100 bb,
one has to play a rather tight game IMO. if the buyin is 150 bb or 200 bb,
and the player plays good postflop games, he can loosen up with positions.
Also, it's really a matter how loose your opps play. If your opps play a
very
loose and bad game, loosing up with positions
is the right adjustment; if they play a very
solid game, you just can't loosen up too much cause when you hit your
hand, you don't get paid off well. I trie

one guy, who's a co-author of Professional Texas HoldEm (new book in 2007,
about cash game only), he wrote one foolproof strategy to play cash games (
he plays 2/5NL) recently on Card Player magazine - buy in short, 100-150BB
for 2/5NL, wait for your decent cards, raise pre-flop and then go all-in on
flop (of course, with top pair or alike hits) against loose aggressive guys.
details can be found in the recent issue (dec.5).
loose aggressive is actually the most dangerous style, could wipe out y

basically you can beat almost all games if you play a 25bb buyin game
and only play high pairs and AK, AQ.

hehe, met one guy a few weeks back. he only bought in for the minimum, $60
for 1/2NL table, looked like that's the maximum he could afford.....
he played a few hands, doubled with premium hands.... then one hand i played
against him, i hit nuts straight on the river, bet $45 (big for him, pot
was about ~$100)... took a long time for him to call (only got ~$30 left
after it)... however, one loose guy went all-in behind him with ~$65 or so..
. i happily called, waiting for him to call such a have-
