JPMorgan therefore see the potential for 68.10% gains on Friday's close of
13.98.
Investors have however failed to take head of the guidance and continue to
cut back on exposure to the banking giant.
Bank of America Corp shares are lower 3.83% at 10:42 in New York.
JPmorgan have also offered a target share price on Citigroup saying shares
could hit 5.5.
JPMorgan therefore see the potential for a move of 41.03% higher from Friday
's close at 3.9.
This morning we reported that Barclays had set a target share price of 6 on
Citigroup, suggesting a potential upside of 53.85%.
The upgrades come in the wake of news that profit fell 37% from a year
earlier to $2.7 billion from $4.28 billion.
According to both Barclays and JPMorgan Friday's sell off could offer a
discounted buying opportunity at current levels. With futures in Citigroup
trading 0.77% higher it would appear investors are ready to take up shares
when the market opens today.
The bank beat analyst estimates and, excluding a gain it booked last year
related to the disposition of the Smith Barney brokerage business, recovered
from a loss while revenue was flat.
Citigroup reported a profit of 9 cents a share, down from 49 cents a year
ago. The year-earlier quarter included the $6.7 billion Smith Barney gain.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters had most recently forecast earnings of 5
cents on $22.16 billion in revenue.
The possibility of picking up discounted Citigroup Inc stock has not
convinced investors on Wall Street, after opening higher Citigroup shares
have headed lower, and at 10:30 AM in New York they are lower 0.64% at 3.88.
For now it looks as though stocks will not recover some of the big losses
they suffered Friday, when they fell on concerns that revenues at big banks
like Citigroup Inc. and Bank of America Corp. could be hurt by new financial
regulations.
More insight into the banking sector will come this week when Wall Street
giants Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley report results. As two of the
largest investment banks, they could be facing the biggest effects of the
recently passed financial reform regulation.
Financial stocks were some of the few losers again Monday.
Bank of America shares fell 35 cents, or 2.5 percent, to $13.63. PNC
Financial Services Group Inc. dropped 33 cents to $57.90. Citigroup shares
rose a penny to $3.91.
Bond prices dipped as investors opted for riskier assets. The yield on the
benchmark 10-year Treasury note, which moves opposite its price, rose to 2.
