MARKET TALK: ARM Holdings Rises Strongly; Nokia Deal Helps

0943 GMT [Dow Jones] ARM Holdings (ARM.LN) shares +2.6% at 617.5p. Merchant
Securities notes Nokia (NOK) has selected ST-Ericsson's ARM-based dual-core
chips to power its future Windows based phones. The announcement means
QUALCOMM (QCOM) loses its monopolistic position with Nokia. This, along with
Monday's demonstration by Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) of servers based on ARM
chips rather than Intel's (INTC) confirms that "ARM is taking market share
in the two hottest sectors of the IT market, smartphone and servers." In
addition, QUALCOMM's results Thursday were impressive. "For companies with
the right chip-sets, there is still plenty of growth available." Buy rating
on ARM, 680p target. |
