In sometime between 24-72 hours you're going to get a visit from the BPD.
Why? Because you're going to be arrested for fraud and a host of other
related criminal acts.
And since the transaction was above $250, that takes it from a civil to a
criminal penalty. (At this point I should mention that I do IT support for
a group of law firms, so I kind of know what I'm talking about).
Now I know what your thinking. The police will toss this case in the trash
the moment I leave the room. And normally I'd agree with you. But normally
, the person you just tried to scam doesn't have a brother-in-law that is a
detective first-class in the BPD. =)
I've got news for you. This isn't the first time someone has tried to scam
me on Craigslist. And no, this isn't the first time someone's tried to get
away with it. But so far, in the four times this has happend in the past, I
've gotten my money back in all four times.
But you're using a proxied email address through Craiglist? Yeah, you
should probably read the FAQs regarding that.
But you're using a Google voice (or other forwarding phone number)? Yeah,
again check the help section regarding reverse lookups and law enforcement.
Same goes with Proxy servers, ISPs, and pre-paid cell phones.
Now if you went to all the trouble of using a throwaway email address AND a
burner phone paid for in cash AND you used a network that isn't your own AND
you didn't just move in to or from the building I met you at... then
congratulations! You win. =)
But if not, then I hope you don't mind living with a felony conviction which
carries a suggested sentence of 2-5 years. And let hope you're not a
student as well, because universities' kinda have a thing against felons for
some reason.
So, reply to me. Don't reply to me. At this point, I don't really care.
Unless you've covered all your bases, I'm going to get my money back.
