发帖数: 3412 | 1 Hi i am seeking some advice on walking cats on leashes and going outside in
general.
so far our cats have no problem wearing their harnesses and walking outside
but they dun walk very far and they stop for everything.
Any tip for enticing them to walk further?
I have taken them for short car rides to supermarket and have them wait in
the car for 10-20min, on leash, but without a cat carrier. How do you take
your cats outside? Has anyone taken their cats to grocery shopping or go
camping?
There are very little information online but I am trying to socialize my
cats, train them to trust me and go on more outdoor trips with me.
Can anyone share your experience? Thanks so much! |

卖食物的店肯定不让进宠物的，camping如果是在国家公园阿reserve之类的地方多半也
不行
大部分猫都喜欢不变的环境，如果不是生来像小白那样外向就不要强求拉，其实我觉得
socialize猫最好的办法是叫一群人来家里打牌～ |

Also do you know how can i get a hold of the posts that has 小白?
I do believe that training and exposure makes a difference, personality for
sure vary.
Ours would spend half an hour moving one house over at first, now can walk
about 4 blocks at night.

they were trying to train a cat called "city". IIRC they were trying to walk
her further away from home. |

no longer working but some did. Pretty cool and inspirational.
Ours are still a long way to go but surprisingly, they accepted their
leashes from day one. From reading online, it seems a heck lot of work,
multi-day process, to just have them wearing the leash. Our cats taught me
not to limit own mind. They have lots of potential, i think:) |

do not allow pets. Better find out
store policies before taking them.
Compared to strolling in stores, cats
definitely enjoy walking outside more.
They can be trained to walk the way you
want. My cat Cocoa knows that when I
pull on the leash and say no, she should
stop going wherever she was heading.
Before long, she learned that she's
supposed to walk in front of a bush
instead of behind it.
If you take them outdoors frequently, make
sure you apply Frontline Plus or similar
flea and tick control products monthly.

where and when do you take your cat out? how long have you been walking them?
Ours has mainly been out at night, after work and dinner. The neighbourhood
is relatively quiet. During the day would be another challenge I think. I
dun mind them wander a bit, just wish they could walk further. Yesterday we
spent an hour walking the 4 blocks, AND with me picking them up from time to
time. They manage to climb a tree, and one gal peed in the sands of
children's playground, PR nightmare basically.
I want to be able to take them to places as people take their dogs to, visit
friends, go to a park, grocery shopping (they wait in the car). This way i
bond with them more and they are not bored inside all the time. I want them
to be able to trust me so that if I am around, they need not be that
skittish. I am hoping with more exposure, they'd get less skittish.
Another thing i haven't quite figured out is how to take them to car rides.
I could confine them to a soft-sided carrier, or just let them loose (but
leashed)? They never sit still like dogs do. In any case probably need to
elevate the carrier or seats so they can see outside. Any experience on this

发帖数: 5148 | 10 It was three years ago, before I got my second cat Peipei, that I would
take Cocoa out for walks. Nowadays with two of them at home, I have
stopped doing so.
On weekdays, Cocoa and I would walk around the neighborhood. On weekends,
we would took a drive to the riverbank, or to a park. Cocoa is a bold cat,
so it was relatively easy to take her places. I learned that stores do not
welcome pets when a store clerk noticed her inside a carrier on the cart
I was pushing. The only stores she could go were pet stores. She loved
watching all the birds in Petsmart.
Inside my car, Cocoa likes to be loose, sitting at different windows.
and sometimes on my lap. Peipei, on the other hand, is a wimp. He
chooses to be inside the carrier. Pet seats would not work 'cause cats
hate to be confined.
With car rides, you can start with sitting in the car with them and giving
them
some treats, gradually progress to a short ride, then a longer ride. Some
cats are more adaptable than others. Just be patient. |

with clicker training.
