话，不过这个功能我还没有用过。。我一般就是出门的时候看看狗狗在家干嘛和听听他

Part 1: The Camera
Mine is a cheap IP camera I bought from Hong Kong (took 2 month to show up,
in a beat-up box). It may not be suitable for you guys since I had to do a
lot of manual firmware upgrade before it's in _GOOD_ working order. However
, there are many IP cameras here in the US that does the same (or better)
job. Here is the one I was gonna get before I went with the cheap route.

It's made by TrendNet, model TV-IP422W. should be <$200, and should work
out of the box. What's nice about this one is the optical zoom, unlike mine
which only has pan/tilt and infrared (for night vision).
if you guys are feeling adventurous, here is the one I got from Hong Kong ($
67 free shipping). There are several IP cameras on that site (even look the
same), but this one (sku#26358) has the best quality and reconfigurability.

There are also many good ones on Amazon (by TrendNet, Linksys, Panasonic)
that are cheap (in lower $100s) but don't have the added features. Compare
, and look for:
- Zoom
- Pan/Tilt
- Night vision (infrared)
- Wifi (although be careful to secure your home Wifi connection, you don't
want peeping toms)
Remember, you are NOT buying a "web cam" which needs to be connected to a
computer. You need a "IP camera" or "Internet Camera", which is a computer
plus a web server by itself.

Part 2: Your Internet Connection
Like I said, the camera act as a stand-alone computer on your home network.
It's actually a web server which hosts its own control interface and video
feed through its web page. As for any web hosting at home, you will need to
allow outside traffic to come into your house network. Most household
routers can do that. A common configuration is to use port forwarding and
forward "port 80" aka "http" from outside(WAN) to a computer inside (LAN).
Only this time your computer is an IP camera.
It's also best if your DSL/Cable connection has a static IP, but it should
work with regular consumer DSL/Cable. Most home DSL/Cable has a dynamic IP
address, which means you will need to know that IP in order to reach your
camera. Sometime the IP stays the same for weeks or even months, and some
times it will change if your modem just goes out of power.
Here is an example for configuration:
- if you have a router at home, get the camera working on your home network
first.
- your camera should have an IP which is similar to your computer's IP. e.g.
192.168.1.8
- you should be able to view the camera by going to http://192.168.1.8 from your laptop while it's on the same home wifi/LAN
- now configure the router so you can get to 192.168.1.8 when your laptop is
not on your LAN
- go to your router's web interface (e.g. 192.168.1.1) and lookup WAN IP,
say it's 24.123.45.67. REMEMBER this IP and how you got it**.
- go to your router's Port Forwarding config and forward port 80 or HTTP to
the camera's IP, i.e. 192.168.1.8
- get on the Internet from outside of your house network, say like Starbucks.
- goto http://24.123.45.67 and you should see the camera's web interface.
- if this IP is changed for whatever reason, you will need to look it up
again from above step **.
some camera (like mine) has a nice feature of emailing you the WAN IP, every
time it's changed. So if it changed while no one's home, you don't have to
wait till you get home to find out the new IP.
